Need a last minute Easter treat or something to do with all those Peeps? Make these Peeps Treats! It’s a fun and easy twist on the classic Rice Krispie Treats but with a decidedly Easter vibe.
My son loves marshmallows and Rice Krispie treats, so for Easter, I just knew I’d have to make Rice Krispie treats with Peeps.
I scanned pinterest for inspiration. I was planning on just making the treats in different sets of colors, but then I saw this pin from Yellow Bliss Road from about layering the colors, and I thought that would be super fun. Of course, I always have to add an upgrade to everything, so I didn’t just stop with layers of colors. I used cookie cutters shaped like bunnies, eggs and chicks to make the treats even more special.

I followed the directions exactly, except that on my last layer, yellow, I ran out of Rice Krispies. I decided to use Honey Nut Cheerios instead. My friends, next time I might only use Honey Nut Cheerios! They added an extra sweet surprise to the yellow layer.
Peeps Treats
You’ll need:
40 Peeps, 10 each in pink, purple, blue and yellow. It doesn’t matter if they’re chicks or bunnies.
4 tbsp butter, divided into 1 tbsp increments
6 cups of Rice Krispies (or Cheerios!) divided into 1.5 cup amounts
Cookie cutters in Easter shapes
Wax paper
A loaf pan
Cooking spray
Method:
Line a loaf pan with wax paper on the bottom and up the sides. Set aside.
In a medium sized bowl, melt 1 tbsp butter in the microwave. Add 10 peeps of the same color. Toss to coat and return to the microwave for about 30-45 seconds, making sure the peeps don’t expand over the edge of your bowl.
Stir the peeps and the butter together. Add 1.5 cups Rice Krispies and stir well.
Press this mixture evenly in the bottom of the loaf pan.
Repeat these instructions with all layers until your loaf pan is full.
Allow the treats to cool completely, about 1-2 hours.
Remove from loaf pan and slice into about half-inch slices.
Use cookie cutters to cut a shape out of each treat. I did this two at a time. I would take a shape, such as a bunny, and cut a shape out of one treat. Then I would cut the same shape out of another treat with the treat facing the opposite direction. Then I would take the cutout pieces and set them inside the opposite treats. That way, the colors were opposite, and you could see the shape of the bunny. I hope that makes sense. The pictures should help clarify.
Smoosh the cutout shape into the treat to make it stick. Flip the treat over, and smoosh again. The treat should still be sticky enough that it will stay in place.
