I love Australia.  I’ve always loved Australia.  Last year, my husband and I took a dream vacation to Australia to celebrate our 5-year anniversary.  There were so many things that I loved about the trip, from the pleasant flight on Virgin Australia (it was fun even though it was 15 hours from L.A. to Sydney), the beautiful Whitsundays, a helicopter tour over the Great Barrier Reef, wine tasting, delicious food, but most of all, I loved the animals.  I have always loved koalas, and the absolute highlight of the trip for me was holding a koala at Dreamworld.  His name was Smo-Jo (short for Smokey Jones).

I have a baby-on-the-way, and I knew I just had to knit him (yup, it’s a boy!) a toy koala.  I was so excited when I came across a picture of a hand-knit stuffed koala on pinterest.  Here’s the link to the pattern: http://knittedtoybox.blogspot.com/2008/11/koala-baby.html

I made the koala exactly as described, and I think it turned out pretty cute.  For the body, I used the yarn Bernat Satin in the color Heather Grey Mist.  For the ears, I used Bernat Satin in the color Snow.  For the eyes and nose, I used Red Heart Shimmer yarn in the color Black.

What to make next?  Maybe a wallaby (which is basically a small kangaroo).

Now, that’s some Pretty Creative Stuff!
