Have you ever looked at the shape of a pretzel and thought “this looks just like a heart”? I never had until one day when it hit me, and I knew what I had to do – get out the chocolate! In just a few minutes, I had transformed ordinary pretzels into a heart shaped dessert that’s perfect for Valentine’s Day.
Heart Shaped Chocolate Pretzels Recipe
Makes 8 mini pretzel hearts. Feel free to double, triple or quadruple the recipe as needed.
Ingredients:
1/4 cup Chocolate chips (white, milk, semi-sweet – whatever you like)
8 Mini pretzels
Sprinkles (optional)
Red food coloring (optional)
Method:
- Put 1/4 cup of chocolate chips in the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir. Put back in the microwave for 30 seconds more. Stir. Repeat until you reach melted perfection! (optional: if using white chocolate chips, add a couple drops of red food coloring at this point to change the color to pink or red)
- Use a fork (or a spoon, butter knife, or another pretzel, etc) to fill each mini pretzel with melted chocolate and cover the pretzel part in the middle, only leaving the outer edge of the pretzel visible…which looks just like a heart!
- Finally, if desired, add sprinkles for some extra Valentine’s Day flair.
After making pretzels look like hearts, I had another idea. What if I made pretzels looks like shamrocks? I pushed a few pretzels together and knew I had to try creating a shamrock for St. Patricks Day!
Shamrock Shaped Pretzel Recipe
Makes 2 mini pretzel shamrocks. Feel free to double, triple or quadruple the recipe as needed.
Ingredients:
1/4 cup white chocolate chips
6 Mini pretzels
2 Pretzel sticks
Sprinkles (optional)
Green food coloring
Method:
- Put 1/4 cup of white chocolate chips in the microwave for 30 seconds. Stir. Put back in the microwave for 30 seconds more. Stir. Repeat until you reach melted perfection!
- Stir in a couple drops of green food coloring to change the color to your preferred shade of green.
- Push 3 mini pretzels together and one mini pretzel stick in the center (the picture should make this easier to understand).
- Use a fork (or a spoon, butter knife, or another pretzel, etc) to fill the pretzels with melted chocolate and cover the connecting area between the pretzels with chocolate so that when the chocolate dries, you can easily pick the entire shamrock up lollipop-style.
- Finally, add sprinkles if desired.

Now, that’s pretty creative stuff!
