When my family is hungry for something warm, savory and delicious but I don’t want to spend a lot of time in the kitchen, I often make this easy recipe that only has 3 ingredients. I call it “tuna dip,” but we often eat it as a sandwich. My tuna dip recipe can also easily be converted to a chicken dip recipe with an easy ingredient substitution.
The best part of this recipe is that it only takes 2 minutes to heat up, and it’s enough to make three sandwiches or a nice size bowl of dip. If you need to feed more people, the tuna dip recipe can easily be doubled yet still heated up in just 2 minutes.
Let’s get to it. Watch the video below to see how easily this recipe comes together and to learn how to easily modify this recipe so that it becomes chicken dip, or scroll down to see a written version of the recipe.
As I mentioned in the video above, if you want to make chicken dip instead of tuna dip, you can follow all of the directions in the video (or written below) but use canned chicken instead of canned tuna. Also, if you can’t find tapenade or don’t like tapenade, you can use canned chicken with 2 ounces of your favorite salsa.
Tip: If you choose to eat this dip with a spoon or with bell peppers, it’s completely keto friendly, making it great for a low carb diet.
Tuna Dip Recipe
Ingredients:
1 can tuna in water
2 ounces shredded cheese (cheddar or a Mexican blend work well)
2 ounces tapenade
For serving:
tortilla chips
bell peppers, cut into large pieces
bread (for a sandwich)
Method:
Drain the water from the can of tuna.
Use a food scale to measure out two ounces of tapenade. Put it in a microwave safe bowl. Add the drained tuna and the cheese to the bowl.
Stir the ingredients together until slightly combined. It doesn’t have to be mixed perfectly at this point.
Put the bowl in the microwave for 2 minutes or until the cheese is melted.
Remove the bowl from the microwave and stir until completely combined.
Now it’s time to serve, but you have a few options.
Tuna Dip Serving Options
- Eat it as is with a spoon.
- Dip bell peppers or tortilla chips in it. Yum!
- Put the “dip” on bread or toast for a tuna dip sandwich (my son’s favorite way to eat it).
There are a few more optional ways to enjoy this recipe.
- Add two ounces Greek yogurt or sour cream to the tuna dip when it comes out of the microwave for a creamier and slightly less thick consistency.
- Add rice or quinoa to make the “dip” thicker and more of a casserole. Eat it with a spoon!
